Jordan: The Middle East's Greatest Group Tour Destination
Jordan is a country that concentrates an extraordinary density of world-class experiences into a compact, easily navigable space. In just 5–7 days, Indian group travellers can walk through a 2,000-year-old Nabataean city carved entirely from rose-red sandstone, sleep under the stars in a Martian desert landscape, and float effortlessly in the saltiest body of water on Earth. Jordan is genuinely transformative.
Petra — The Rose-Red City
Petra is one of the world's truly unmissable archaeological wonders — a city carved by the Nabataean civilisation from pink sandstone cliffs over 2,000 years ago. The famous approach through the Siq (a 1.2km narrow canyon) dramatically reveals the Treasury (Al Khazneh) in a moment of pure theatrical magnificence. Beyond the Treasury lie the Street of Facades, Royal Tombs, Monastery (Ad Deir), and dozens of carved structures that take 2 full days to explore properly.
Wadi Rum — Lawrence of Arabia's Desert
Wadi Rum is a UNESCO-listed desert valley of extraordinary otherworldly beauty — vast rose-coloured sand plains punctuated by towering sandstone mountains sculpted into arches, canyons, and mushroom rocks. Used as a filming location for The Martian, Dune, and Star Wars, it looks genuinely alien. Group Bedouin camps in Wadi Rum with sunset jeep tours, stargazing dinners, and sleeping in bubble tents under the Milky Way are unforgettable.
Dead Sea — Float in the World's Saltiest Water
The Dead Sea at 430m below sea level is Earth's lowest point. Its water is 10 times saltier than the ocean, making floating effortless and swimming impossible. The mineral-rich black mud has been used for its therapeutic properties since Roman times. A Dead Sea resort spa day is a deeply relaxing group activity — slather yourself in black mud, float in the salty water, and watch the Judean Hills across the water as the sun sets.
Amman & Jerash — History Above Ground
Amman, Jordan's capital, has a walkable downtown with the Roman Theatre, Citadel Hill (Jabal al-Qala'a) with stunning views, and the excellent Jordan Museum. Jerash, 45 minutes north, is one of the best-preserved Roman cities outside Italy — its colonnaded streets, temples, and amphitheatres are astonishing. A day trip from Amman to Jerash is highly recommended for all groups.
Best Time & Visa for Jordan
March to May and September to November are the best times — comfortable temperatures for walking Petra and Wadi Rum. December to February is cool and can be rainy. Indians can obtain a Jordan visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport (JOD 40, approximately ₹4,600). The Jordan Pass (JOD 70–80) includes the visa fee plus entry to Petra and 40+ attractions — excellent value for group tours.
