Your grand Bhutan journey begins at Phuentsholing, the lively border town straddling India and Bhutan. Complete immigration formalities at the border gate and step into Bhutan, where the shift in environment is immediate — quieter roads, pine-scented mountain air, and traditional architecture replacing the urban bustle. Begin the scenic 5-hour mountain drive to Thimphu, winding upward through subtropical forests, river gorges, and small Bhutanese hamlets. This road journey is itself a gradual initiation into the kingdom's landscapes. Arrive in Thimphu by early evening, check in to your accommodation, and stroll the Clock Tower Square area to acclimatize to the altitude and atmosphere.
